Local Saints

This is a stained glass polyptych, made on the window frames of the mid-20th century collected in cities and villages of the Russian hinterland. My window is a source of space, a means of communication, and light collected by more than one generation of unknown residents. The composition of the polyptych resembles an Orthodox altar, and the stained glass windows are made in the style of the West European Middle Ages.
The project is dedicated to the problems of the modern world, how we see it and how we try to comprehend it. The secularization of our life is indisputable, as well as the need to look at ourselves again with inevitable questions: who are you? Why? Where?

I am not a religious person, but I am an artist and for me the history of beauty is impossible without the memory of religious subjects. Hence the attempt to mix different canons, as well as eternal stories with a reference to topicality. In my works you will find coronavirus, and the good news shown with the help of ultrasound, and our contemporaries, who, for all one knows, will be canonized in a hundred years, deservedly or thanks to the absurdity reigning in the world.
